What is the Shipper of Choice Award?
The annual Shipper of Choice 100 Award recognizes the best shippers in the industry today!
The term “shipper of choice” is used throughout the industry, but what does it take to be a good shipper? Driver friendliness, flexibility, accommodations, efficiency, and low detention times all come to mind.
Our goal is to recognize and honor the companies that rise to the level of a true Shipper of Choice as voted on by the industry itself.
The award starts with an open call for nominations from within the industry. The nominee must be a shipper—a company that sends or transports goods by sea, land or air—to qualify. Anyone in the industry can nominate a shipper for this award.
Next, representatives from FreightWaves, the Blockchain in Transport Alliance (BiTA), the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA), and the greater broker community make up a selection committee to narrow nominations down to the Shipper of Choice 100.
From there, carrier members in good standing from BiTA and TCA will vote on the Shipper of Choice 25.
Nominations for the Shipper of Choice Award have now opened, and will be accepted until March 1, 2019. All required fields in the nomination form must be completed in order for the nomination to be considered for the Shipper of Choice 100. FreightWaves will solicit its readers and the broader freight community each year for nominations, and the selection committee’s blind vote will narrow the nominations down to our Shipper of Choice 100 list, which will be published on www.freightwaves.com. The list of Shipper of Choice 100 finalists is provided to the voters by an independent accounting firm that decides on the Shipper of Choice 25.

The Shipper of Choice is determined by a simple points system based on how each voter ranks the industry’s most innovative and/or disruptive companies. A company receives 25 points for each first place vote, 24 for second and so on through to the 25th company, which receives one point. The rankings are set by listing each company’s point totals from highest to lowest. The mathematical formula is the same as the one used for the Amway College Football Coaches Poll, the AP Pro32 rankings and the AP Top 25 rankings for men's and women’s college basketball.
Voting for the Shipper of Choice 25 will be conducted by carrier members in good standing with the TCA and BiTA. Each carrier member has 1 vote. The voters will vote annually upon receipt of the electronic voting form from Katz, Sapper & Miller.
