Anham begins work on U.S. logistics support contract
Anham FCZO has finalized a deal to become the prime vendor for the U.S. military's food supply contract in Kuwait, Iraq and Jordan, taking over from Agility Logistics, Managing Director Mogheith Suktian said Thursday, according to Bloomberg.
Anham is responsible for procuring and distributing all perishable and semi-perishable food items, as well as dry goods, to U.S. military personnel in the region. The Dubai-based company has said the multi-year logistics contract is worth a minimum of $2.2 billion, although the amount includes the cost of food purchases.
A final contract was delayed by protests from two other bidders, including Kuwait Global Link, which the government subsequently rejected.
Suktian said the transition from Agility at all military bases in the region will be completed by the end of the year.
Agility's parent company, Public Warehousing Co., is the largest logistics company in the Middle East. Its contract with the military is scheduled to end in December, but the company was prevented from bidding on a new contract or other U.S. government contracts because it is under indictment for overbilling the Defense Department.
A U.S. magistrate in Atlanta has recommended dismissing the charges against Agility Defense & Government Services on procedural grounds associated with the filing of the charges. U.S. prosecutors have not ruled out filing new charges against Agility/PWC.
