Hapag increases transatlantic rates

   Hapag-Lloyd said it would increase transatlantic freight rates on October 1.
   Rates on eastbound cargo moving through ports on U.S. Gulf coast and the east coasts of Mexico, the U.S. and Canada (including U.S. cargo moving via Canadian ports) to North Europe and the Mediterranean will increase $200 for 20-foot containers and $300 for 40-foot containers. For cargo originating at ports on the West Coast of the U.S., Canada or Mexico, the increase will be $320 for 20-foot containers and $400 for 40-foot containers.
   On westbound cargo from North Europe and Mediterranean the increase will be the same for ports on all coasts of Canada, the U.S. or Mexico: $320 for 20-foot containers and $400 for 40-foot containers.
