The crane was one of two that were delivered in August, but the other crane was not affected.
The cranes were produced by Shanghai-based equipment manufacturer ZPMC and will be located at the Wando Welch Container Terminal, the South Carolina Ports Authority previously reported.
Erin Dhand, a spokesperson with the South Carolina Ports Authority, told American Shipper Thursday, “We’ll still have one of the cranes in operation by the end of the month as planned, and ZPMC will take care of the repair ASAP.”
Dhand added, “ZPMC notified us late last week that during the preparation process for the new cranes, one of the crane booms was raised beyond its stopping point, causing damage to the boom. A senior technical team from ZPMC is on-site to assess the damage and develop a plan for repair. ZPMC still has custody of the cranes so it is their responsibility. ZPMC is a world class company and the largest manufacturer of ship-to-shore container cranes. We are confident that this repair will be completed professionally and in a timely manner.”
