Executive Moves: Marine Chamber, ports, ship broker

Board chair, directors, managers and chief wharfinger named.    Allister Paterson, chief operating officer of CSL Group, has been appointed chair of the Chamber of Marine Commerce Board of Directors.
   His appointment was effective June 22, as were those of six directors named to the board. 
   The six new board members are Sujit Sanyal, chief operating officer of Stelco Holdings Inc.; Carsten Bredin, vice president of grain merchandising for Richardson International; Jim Reznik, director of North American logistics for St. Marys Cement – Votorantim Cimentos; Scott Bravener, co-president and COO of Rand Logistics/Lower Lakes Towing; J. Wesley Newton, senior vice president of corporate development and general counsel for Algoma Central Corp.; and William D.Friedman, president and chief executive officer of the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority.
   Paterson was hired as president of Canada Steamship Lines in January 2015. He took on the role of COO of the CSL Group two years later. Previously, he was the chief commercial officer of Finnair. Prior to that, Paterson was president and CEO of Seaway Marine Transport.
   The Chamber of Marine Commerce is a bi-national association that represents more than 130 marine industry stakeholders, including major Canadian and American shippers, ports, terminals and marine service providers, as well as domestic and international shipowners. 

   The Port of Oakland on Monday named Eric Napralla as its chief wharfinger.  
   Napralla, a six-year port employee, will manage seaport operations that range from tenant relationships to facilities leasing. He replaces Chris Peterson, who retired last week after 25 years at the port, 12 as chief wharfinger.
   Napralla will manage a staff of four wharfingers and a senior maritime project manager responsible for seaport operations. The group works daily with more than 60 tenants operating on port property.  
   Before becoming chief wharfinger, Napralla was a senior project administrator in the port’s operations department. He previously held a management position at the Port of Redwood City and served four years in the Coast Guard.

   Turi Fiorito will become director of the European Federation of Inland Ports on Aug. 20.
   Fiorito previously was a transport policy adviser to Wim van de Camp, a Dutch member of the European Parliament. Prior to that, he was a European affairs assistant at KLM. Fiorito began his career as a consultant for a global public affairs consultancy based in Brussels.

   Effective Aug 1, Bjoern Andersen and Arne Corleis will be the managing directors of Harper Petersen in Hamburg, Germany. Simon Aust, managing director of the Hamburg-based ship broker for the last decade, is leaving the company later this year. Hu Hui will remain in charge of Harper Petersen Asia as the chief representative officer in Shanghai.
   Andersen built up the bulk desk in 2015 and since then has been responsible for the marketing of the bulk carriers owned by the shareholders and competitive business.
   Corleis has been with the company for 11 years. His focus will remain the global container ship market.
