ZIM to offer new string between Asia and U.S. East Coast

ZIM Pacific Atlantic Service (ZPA) will start in early May and offer connections from the U.S. East Coast to South Korea and China.    ZIM said Monday it will begin offering an additional service between Asia and the U.S. East Coast next month.
The ZIM Pacific Atlantic Service (ZPA) will start in early May, subject to approval by the Federal Maritime Commission. It will charter space on the G6 Alliance’s PA2 string, which employs 10 ships with capacities of about 5,000 TEUs each.
For ZIM, the initial rotation will be Pusan, Balboa and Manzanillo in Panama, Miami, Jacksonville Savannah, Charleston, New York and Norfolk, Manzanillo and Balboa, and Pusan. Other G6 carriers include service to Tokyo and Kobe. NYK does not participate in the service, according to BlueWater Reporting.
George Goldman, president of ZIM American Integrated Shipping Services Co., said after several sailings the rotation will change so that a call to Shanghai will be added after Pusan and the New York call will be dropped.
“The Asia-U.S. East Coast trade is one of ZIM’s strategic trades and, as such, we constantly invest and enhance the product portfolio and service levels we offer our customers in this important trade,” said Nissim Yochai, ZIM’s vice president for the Pacific trade.
