Hapag-Lloyd announces Asia-Europe rate hikes

   Hapag-Lloyd has announced substantial rate increases and a peak season surcharge in the Asia-Europe trade.
   They include:
  • $1,000-per-TEU general rate increase on the Far East Westbound trade, effective July 1. This increase applies to shipments from East Asia (excluding Japan) to all North Europe and Mediterranean (excluding South and West Africa) destinations.
  • Implementation of a peak season surcharge on cargo moving from East Asia (excluding Japan) to the Mediterranean of $650 per TEU between June 10 and Aug. 31.
  • $500-per-TEU peak season surcharge on cargo moving from East Asia (excluding Japan) to the North Europe, effective Aug. 1 to Sept. 30.
   Hapag-Lloyd said it defines East Asia as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Macao, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Brunei, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea and the Russian Pacific ports of Vladivostok and Vostochny; North Europe the Northwest Continent, the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, Baltic and European ports of Russia; and the Mediterranean as the West Mediterranean, East Mediterranean, Black Sea and North Africa. – Chris Dupin
