California woman sentenced for illicit exports to China

The Justice Department said Wenxia “Wency” Man of San Diego was sentenced to 50 months in jail for conspiring to export U.S. military technology to China.    The Justice Department on Friday said Wenxia “Wency” Man of San Diego was sentenced to 50 months in jail for conspiring to export and cause the export of fighter jet engines, an unmanned aerial vehicle (or drone), and related technical data to China in violation of the Arms Export Control Act.
   On June 9, Man, 45, was convicted by a federal jury in the Southern District of Florida of one count of conspiring to export and cause the export of defense articles without the required federal government license.
   According to evidence presented at trial, between March 2011 and June 2013, Man conspired with Xinsheng Zhang, who was located in China, to illegally acquire and export the military technology to China.
   The Justice Department noted Man referred to Zhang during a discussion with an undercover Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer as a “technology spy.” Zhang, who worked on behalf of the Chinese military, wanted to copy military technology, particularly stealth, from other countries.
