Intermarine launches new liner service to Mediterranean

Ocean carrier Intermarine’s expansion follows a March announcement by Weco (formerly Nordana) that it was terminating a roll-on/roll-off service to the Mediterranean after 60 years of operation.    Ocean carrier Intermarine is expanding its Houston-based liner services from the U.S. Gulf Coast/Americas to the Mediterranean, Black Sea and Adriatic Sea, with a specific focus on Algeria, Egypt and Turkey, the company said in a statement.
A specialist in moving project, breakbulk and heavylift cargo, Intermarine said, “The monthly eastbound service dovetails with the recently announced expansion of the westbound Mediterranean to U.S. Gulf Coast/Americas service.”
Intermarine’s expansion follows the March announcement by Weco (formerly Nordana) that it was terminating a roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) service to the Mediterranean after 60 years in operation.
The new services will be managed by Chris Harman, who formerly worked for Nordana. It will use Intermarine’s Industrial Terminals in Houston as the base for operations.
Additionally, Intermarine said the new routes will allow for the extension of its South American service network to the Mediterranean.
“The new services provide us with an opportunity to grow our relationships with both established and new customers and provide them with the performance and reliability Intermarine is known for,” said Al Stanley, president and chief executive officer of Intermarine.
