U.S. exports continue slide in January

Exports of goods and services from the United States decreased to $176.5 billion in January from $180.3 billion the month prior, according to data from the Commerce Department.    The Commerce Department said U.S. exports of goods and services decreased to $176.5 billion in January from $180.3 billion the month prior. 
   The country’s exports have continued to decline since last summer. 
   U.S. Undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade Stefan M. Selig acknowledged that the country still faces “global economic headwinds,” however he said “despite these challenges, in January the United States saw increased exports of travel, transport, financial services, and automotive vehicles and parts.”
   The United States registered a $5.4 billion trade surplus with Canada, its top trading partner, during 2015. This was the first time the United States reached an annual trade surplus with Canada since 1991, and it is the largest on record, the Commerce Department noted.
