PierPass website offers links to import container appointment systems

PierPass has begun providing a page where truckers can make appointments to pick up import containers in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.    The five container terminals in Los Angeles and Long Beach that are requiring truckers to make appointments to pick-up containers have all made links to their systems available at the PierPass website.
   PierPass said last week that effective immediately, five terminals will require truckers to obtain an appointment to pick-up imports and five more terminals will begin requiring appointments next year.
   “For truck drivers, trucking companies and cargo owners, the appointment systems will add predictability to the supply chain” said PierPass, predicting that the change will result in reduced turn times.
   In a joint statement, John Slangerup, the chief executive officer of the Port of Long Beach and Gene Seroka, the executive director of the Port of Los Angeles said, “Our customers and stakeholders have been very engaged in the Supply Chain Optimization Working Groups about the value of an effective appointment system, and the potential improvements for the San Pedro Bay Port Complex. We are encouraged to see the terminal operating community responding to those requests by moving quickly to develop solutions.”
   They added that the ports “look forward to working with the terminal operators and other stakeholders to collaboratively see that any appointment system is well executed and improves velocity and efficiencies in our gateway.”
