Port of Los Angeles sees inbound container volumes rise 4.7% in April

However, the port’s outbound container volumes fell 1.1 percent year-over-year in April to 144,103 TEUs.    The Port of Los Angeles handled 656,177 TEUs in April, a 1.0 percent decline from April 2015, the port said.
   Loaded inbound container volumes rose 4.7 percent in April compared to the same period last year to 343,574 TEUs, while loaded outbound container volumes fell 1.1 percent to 144,103 TEUs. In addition, the movement of empty containers tumbled 10.9 percent from April 2015 to 168,499 TEUs.
   “We’re encouraged that shippers and supply chain decision makers continue to show confidence in the Port of Los Angeles,” said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka. “While the pace of global trade and U.S. retailer imports has eased recently, our work and progress on supply chain optimization has put the Port of Los Angeles on track to drive market opportunities.”
   Overall, during the first four months of 2016, the port has handled 2.7 million TEUs, an 8.1 percent increase from the corresponding period in 2015.
