Ashooh nominated to BIS assistant secretary post

The Trump administration has nominated Richard Ashooh of New Hampshire as the assistant secretary of export administration in the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security.    The Trump administration has nominated Richard Ashooh of New Hampshire as the Commerce Department’s assistant secretary of export administration, a post that was vacated earlier this year when the Obama administration left the White House.
   Ashooh, who if confirmed by the Senate will replace former Assistant Secretary Kevin Wolf at Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security, currently serves as the director of economic partnerships at the University System of New Hampshire. Before that, he was the executive director of the Warren Rudman Center at the University of New Hampshire’s School of Law. He also worked more than two decades as a senior executive in the aerospace industry, beginning his career with Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems.
   The White House noted that Ashooh’s primary focus was “ensuring the success of programs that protect United States and Allied warfighters, particularly in the electronic warfare space.”
   Earlier in his career, Ashooh was a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs staff. In 2010, he ran for Congress in the state of New Hampshire, narrowly losing the Republican nomination during the primary.
