Port of NY/NJ to hold development summit

The invitation-only event will be held May 3 as part of the port authority’s effort to develop a master plan.    The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey will hold a port planning summit May 3 at its headquarters as part of its effort to develop a master plan.
The plan is “aimed at continuing to enhance the port’s position as the premier North American East Coast gateway to 2045,” the bi-state agency said.
Molly Campbell, director of the port department for the port authority, said the plan is considered to be “critical to the continued success, economic impact, and growth of the Port of New York and New Jersey, as well as the many customers it serves.”
In an interview with American Shipper earlier this year, she said the plan will be a “soup to nuts” review of the port to help it develop a “road map” for the future.
The port authority awarded Hatch Associates a contract worth up to $3.5 million in October for assistance in developing the plan.
“Their goal is to take a look and talk to all our stakeholders, both port customers and people who are affected by the port, and look at some of the ways we’re using our land and our property and make recommendations,” Campbell said.
The May 3 event is the first of several invitation-only events planned and other events will be open to the public, the port authority said.
