Maersk Triple E to call terminal in Gdansk

DCT Gdansk Container Terminal said Maersk’s 18,000-TEU “Triple E” ship will call its terminal on the Baltic Sea in August.
DCT said a Triple E ship “will call for the first time at DCT Gdansk during her maiden voyage from Asia to Europe. DCT Gdansk is extremely honored with the Maersk Line decision and is looking forward to serve their brand new super vessels.”
Maersk spokesman Michael Storgaard said “at this point the plan is that the Triple-Es will be deployed as part of the AE10 service, which currently calls Gdansk.” Full rotation of that service is currently Kwangyang, Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Tanjung Pelapas, Suez Canal, Rotterdam, Bremerhaven, Gdansk, Aarhus, Gothenburg, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam, Port Tangiers, Suez Canal, Singapore, Yantian, Hong Kong, and Kwangyang.
“Implementation of the first direct deep-sea ocean container service to the Baltic Sea truly revolutionized the market and now the deployment of the 18,000-TEU vessels confirms it,” said Jean-Jacques Moyson, the terminal’s chief commercial officer, in a statement.
Storgaard declined to confirm that the first of the Triple E ships will be named after Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller, the former chief executive officer, partner, and son of the founder of the company who died last April.
“The formal revelation will be at the name-giving in June, also as per tradition,” he said. “But can confirm that the first Triple-E will have a magnificent, memorable moniker.” – Chris Dupin
