Liner carriers hike transatlantic rates

Several liner carriers said they’re increasing their transatlantic rates.
Hapag-Lloyd on April 1 will increase its eastbound transatlantic rates for all cargo and container types in the trade from Canada, the United States and Mexico to North Europe and the Mediterranean by $150 per 20-foot container and $200 per 40-foot container.
In the westbound transatlantic direction – from North Europe and the Med to North America – the increase will be $250 for a 20-foot container and $350 for a 40-foot container.
To, from and via Portland, Ore., Hapag-Lloyd will apply an additional $150 per container charge “due to considerably higher terminal costs.”
NYK said it would implement a transatlantic general rate increase, effective March 21.
The GRI will apply to all dry cargo moving eastbound from the U.S. West Coast and Canadian ports to Northern Europe and will amount to $100 per 20-foot container and $200 per 40-foot container.
MOL also announced a transatlantic GRI of $400 per 20-foot container and $450 per 40-foot or 45-foot container on westbound cargo moving from North Europe or the Med to U.S. ports. – Chris Dupin
