Röhlig acquires South American partner

   The Bremen, Germany-based forwarding company Röhlig has acquired 100 percent of its longstanding agent Procargo in South America.
   “South America is one of the major growth regions in the world. We believe that by acquiring 100 per cent of our local partner we have gained a strong position in the market,” said Thomas Hansen, Röhlig chief executive officer for the Americas and Africa, in a statement.
   Röhlig said global expansion of its network is an important part of its strategy. The forwarder acquired a 50 percent share of Procargo in 2011 to strengthen its presence in South America, and since then business volume has increased.
   Röhlig has subsidiaries in Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay. With the addition of agent agreements with local partners in other large South American markets, such as Brazil and Columbia, Röhlig has obtained a region-wide presence on the South American continent.
   A Weiss-Röhlig branch in Miami serves as a gateway between markets in South and North America.
   Owner-run, Röhlig offers sea, air and project cargo logistics. Founded in 1852, the company today employs more than 2,000 people at 140 locations in 31 countries. – Chris Dupin
