Maverick ramps up driver training

Little Rock, Ark.-based trucking company opens new $4 million driver training center and aims to hire more military veterans.    Maverick Transportation, a Little Rock, Ark.-based trucking company, has recently opened a new $4 million driver training facility. 
   “We want this to be a career of choice, not of last resort,” said Maverick’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Steve Williams in a statement. “We are committed to attracting, training and retaining the industry’s safest and most professional drivers.” 
   Maverick’s new training facility follows its recent partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring our Heroes’ program, where the company has committed to hiring military veterans.   
   “A driving career at Maverick is a perfect fit for many military men and women. The high level of dedication and discipline it takes to serve in the Armed Forces transfers over well,” said Brad Vaughn, Maverick’s director of recruiting. 
   Maverick operates more than 1,400 trucks.
