Amerijet will provide ‘transparent’ fuel surcharges

Miami-based cargo airline will transition calculation methodology to an indexed model to more accurately follow fuel markets.    Miami-based cargo airline Amerijet International will transition its fuel surcharge calculation methodology to an indexed model, which it says will more accurately follow the fuel markets.
“This will provide both Amerijet and our customers a fair and transparent methodology, which will rise and fall with the market,” said Derry Huff, Amerijet’s vice president of sales and marketing, in a statement.
Amerijet’s new fuel surcharge calculation, which takes effect for all shipments starting Aug. 1, will automatically trigger when the jet fuel spot price exceeds $1.44 per gallon. When the price falls below this cost, there will be no additional fuel surcharge, Huff explained.
The carrier said its program follows the fuel prices published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, which are pegged to the U.S. Gulf Coast spot prices for kerosene-based jet fuel. The surcharge will be updated on Amerijet’s website bi-weekly, or every other Tuesday.
