Corpus Christi finalizes Navy property sale

Port Corpus Christi said on Tuesday it finalized the sale of a large portion of the former U.S. Naval Station Ingleside (NSI) to the Oxy Ingleside Energy Center.
The purchase price of $82.1 million included 815 acres, the 1,100-foot double deck concrete “Alpha” pier and more than 2,000 feet of wharf frontage adjacent to a deep-water turning basin. In addition, the sale includes most of the industrial support facilities at the base, plus 435 acres of “greenfield” property next to it.
“The port commission and staff look forward to a great future working together to better the Coastal Bend Region.” said Mike Carrell, chairman of the port commission.
U.S. Naval Station Ingleside was designated for closure under the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Act, which resulted in the departure of the Navy by April 30, 2010. On that date, ownership of the base reverted to the Port of Corpus Christi Authority.
