Dutch agribusiness takes over Romanian port terminal

Dutch agribusiness and trading company Nidera has acquired the USA/USC Terminal at the port of Constanta.    Dutch agribusiness and trading company Nidera has acquired the USA/USC Terminal at the Romanian port of Constanta, securing the firm’s position in the Black Sea.
   “The port of Constanta is a traditional partner for the Central and Eastern European countries with high agricultural production. It plays a key role in the export of these products from the inland of Romania and the Balkans,” Nidera said in a statement.
   The terminal has a total storage capacity of 250,000 metric tons and is able to load two panamax vessels at the same time, with loading facilities for trucks, trains and barges.
   For the past several years, Nidera has used the terminal to export various grains and oilseeds. “However, with an ever-increasing market share as a result of improvements in our origination program, full ownership of such a terminal in the port of Constanta is essential for the realization of our growth strategy in this region,” the company said.
   The terminal joins Nidera’s two inland silos and two planned silos in Romania.
