Hoyer expands footprint in China

Hamburg-based bulk logistics company Hoyer took over plant logistics for Covestro within the Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park.    The bulk logistics company Hoyer has taken over the plant logistics services in the Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park (SCIP) for polymer manufacturer Covestro.
   Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed by Hoyer, a privately-held firm based in Hamburg, Germany.
   The three-year contract with Covestro, which commenced June 1, offers options for contract extensions.
   One of the primary products made by Covestro in China is methylene diphenyl diisocyanate, which is used to manufacture foams for automobile and building industries.
   With about 70 employees from Hoyer’s Supply Chain Solutions (SCS) business already at this site, it will take care of tank container loading, drum filling and storage, dispatch of palletized and non-palletized goods, and maintenance of the logistics installation.
   “We hope our work for Covestro will open the door to other projects and new clients in China. We want to establish our SCS services here on a long-term basis,” said Felix Bossmeyer, director of supply chain solutions for the Asia-Pacific region at Hoyer, in a statement.
   Correction: A previous version of this story said Hoyer acquired SCIP to manage the plant logistics for Covestro, however, Hoyer did not acquire SCIP and only took over plant logistics for Covestro within SCIP.
