Officials said the charge comes “in response to accelerating demand for containerized services on the transatlantic trade, as well as other trades served via Canada’s East Coast ports of Montreal and Halifax.”
The surcharge of $250 per 20-foot containers and $300 per 40-foot container will apply to dry and refrigerated shipments moving between Europe and North America via Canada’s East Coast ports, including cargo transhipping in North European ports.
Earlier this week, the Transpacific Stabilization Agreement announced a peak season surcharge on May 15 in the Asia-U.S. trade.
