NYK launches monthly car service from Port Canaveral

The Central Florida port says the service will open a new market for regional automobile and heavy equipment auctions.    NYK will begin a monthly service transporting automobiles from Florida’s Port Canaveral to Central and South America.
The first vessel in the service, Neptune Leader, is scheduled to call Port Canaveral Oct. 10.
Port Canaveral said the service will expand market reach for Central Florida’s auto and heavy equipment businesses.
“With the relatively short trucking distance between Port Canaveral and the numerous auto and heavy equipment auctions located in Central Florida, the NYK service will provide area businesses with cost-effective options and positions us competitively with other Florida seaports,” said Alberto Cabrera, Port Canaveral’s senior director of cargo business development.
NYK is taking over and expanding the reach of a roll-on/roll-off service that was formerly operated by Eukor.
“With more than 20 years of working with Port Canaveral on the Central American service, we are excited to work with NYK Line to make Port Canaveral Orlando’s gateway to Central America,” added Brian J. Brennan, President of Cartainer Ocean Line, Inc.
“NYK looks forward to adding Port Canaveral to its service scope to meet our customers growing demands” said Gary J. Hurley, VP Sales-NYK Line RORO Division.
Ambassador Services Inc. will be the vessel agent and terminal operator and Ceres will be NYK’s stevedore.
