Exel starts North American freight brokerage

   Exel has formed a new freight brokerage company, Exel Freight Connect, to help connect its customers with carriers across the United States, Canada and Mexico. 
   The new company is located in the warehouse district of Columbus, Ohio.
   Exel Freight Connect is expected to generate 117 new jobs in the Columbus area and will be a multi-client and multi-sector service, specializing in truckload, less-than-truckload and expedited shipments, the company said. While focusing initially on dry freight, the company does offer flatbed, temperature-control, intermodal freight transport and other specialized transportation services to its customers.
   “By directly handling freight brokerage internally, we can now ensure greater control and consistency for our customers by expertly matching shippers with carriers,” said Mike J. Clark, vice president of transportation at Exel, in a statement.
