ZIM ships continue to be met by protesters

More protests planned when liner carrier’s vessels arrive in Oakland and Tampa.    ZIM ships continue to be met by demonstrators protesting Israel’s actions in Palestine.
   According to the Tampa Bay Business Journal about 25 protesters gathered Saturday morning at the port to try to prevent a ZIM ship from being worked.
   While port officials were not available for comment Monday morning, a report in Tampa Bay Creative Loafing quoted one of the demonstrators as saying, “there was no delay today” from their action. They are planning another demonstration for Nov. 1.
   Meanwhile, in Oakland, where demonstrations in August resulted in a ZIM ship having to move to a different berth within the port to be worked, and to move to make an unscheduled call in Los Angeles two weeks ago to discharge cargo, another protest targeting a ZIM ship has been announced for Oct. 25 by a group called Block the Boat for Palestine.
   ZIM said in a statement earlier this month it’s “not pulling out of Oakland; the customers there are important for the company, and it will continue to service them at the highest level in any situation.”
