Training center set up at K.C. logistics park

Several private firms and public entities have created a logistics training center at Kansas City to help fill employers’ needs.    Transportation companies and shippers, along with several public entities, have created a logistics training center at Logistics Park Kansas City (LPKC).
   Supporters of the training center include NorthPoint Development, Johnson County Community College (JCCC), the City of Edgerton, Workforce Partnership, BNSF Railway and the Southwest Johnson County Economic Development Corp. 
   NorthPoint is making an in-kind contribution of about 5,000 square feet of space for the center, which will house a conference room, training areas, a forklift operations training lab, and offices for JCCC and Workforce Partnership. The facility is scheduled to be completed in late 2015.
   JCCC will provide direction, coordination and administrative support for the development and operations of the training center. The college is designing the program around the current and future workforce, training and talent needs of companies at LPKC and in the surrounding area.
   Several companies at LPKC, such as Demdaco, Smart Warehousing, Kubota and Flexsteel, are helping to shape the training center’s curriculum and are interested in using its services.
   “Having a supply chain education facility at LPKC gives companies located or considering a move here an edge, and is a win-win for everyone involved,” said Darrell Coffey, director of economic development for BNSF, in a statement.
