Report: Port of New York and New Jersey boosts local economy

Jobs directly associated with port activity have increased more than 13 percent between 2012 and 2014, according to an economic impact study of the Port of New York and New Jersey.    An economic impact study of the Port of New York and New Jersey released this week found jobs directly associated with port activity increased more than 13 percent between 2012 and 2014 when a similar analysis was conducted.
   The study was prepared by A. Strauss-Wieder Inc. of Westfield, N.J. for the New York Shipping Association.
   John Nardi, president of NYSA said “Clearly the maritime industry continues to play a critical role in the vibrancy of businesses in the region.”
   The study found port operations provide:

• 336,600 full-time jobs in region;
• 190,100 direct jobs;
• $21.2 billion in personal income;
• Nearly $53.5 billion in business income;
• And almost $7.1 billion in federal, state and local tax revenues.
