The reductions in the firms’ average terminal handling charges is ranging between 76-127 yuan (U.S. $11.03-$18.43) per TEU, and after the cuts, the firms will be charging between 633-731 yuan (U.S. $91.87-$106.09) per TEU.
In early March, 11 container shipping lines, including Maersk Line, MSC and COSCO, “had pledged to cut average terminal handling charges by 13-22 percent,” Xinhua said.
China’s National Development and Reform Commission said that overall, “the 18 shipping lines can reduce the burden on importers and exporters by a total of 4.6 billion yuan (U.S. $667.6 million) each year.”
