IAG, Finnair share freighter capacity

IAG Cargo and Finnair Cargo have entered a block-space agreement for freighter capacity operating between London’s Luton and Helsinki airports.    IAG Cargo and Finnair Cargo have entered a block-space agreement on freighter capacity operating between London’s Luton and Helsinki airports.
The route will be served twice weekly by an Airbus 300-600 all-cargo plane. The cargo from these flights may then connect with either carriers’ global networks.
This is the second freighter deal signed by IAG Cargo with another carrier since May 2014.
“With Finnair’s excellent reach into Asia and our strength in the Americas, this deal will open up new markets for our customers while supporting the responsible management of capacity on our network,” Steve Gunning, chief executive officer of IAG Cargo, said in a statement.
For Finnair, the service into Luton marks its third hub in London. “This partnership with IAG Cargo does not only offer our customers considerably improved connections between Asia and the U.K., but also adds tens of new great connections between our Nordic home market, Northern America and Asia,” added Antti Kuusenmäki, vice president and head of Finnair Cargo.
Finnair already operates seven cargo flights between London Heathrow and Helsinki, while IAG Cargo operates two daily narrow-body services between these two airports.
