Goya Foods, one of the largest Hispanic-owned food companies in the U.S., will invest $80 million in an expansion of its manufacturing and distribution facility near Houston.
The 400,000-square-foot expansion at its North American Processing Center in Brookshire, Texas, includes new food-processing equipment such as a state-of-the-art freezer and high-speed processing equipment.
Goya is doubling production capacity at the facility in order to meet increased consumer demand for its products, according to Bob Unanue, president and CEO of Secaucus, New Jersey-based Goya Foods.
“Goya is committed to meeting increased consumer demand for our products from all consumers across the United States and abroad,” Unanue said in a release.
The expansion project is already underway and is scheduled to be completed in 2022. Once completed, the facility will be more than 1 million square feet. Brookshire is located 37 miles west of Houston.
Goya’s facility in Brookshire opened in 2014. In 2017, the facility was doubled, adding 324,000 square feet, including expanding its production and distribution warehouses, adding 29 new trucking dock doors for domestic and international distribution. The facility is located on 130 acres.
Goya Foods directly employs 196 drivers and has 215 trucks, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
Goya manufactures, packages and distributes more than 2,500 food products from Spain, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central and South America.
