Einride (Nasdaq: ENRD) will build the next generation of the Einride Driver on Nvidia’s Hyperion platform under a collaboration announced Monday. The Swedish company will adapt Hyperion, a compute and sensor reference architecture for Level 4 autonomy, to heavy-duty trucks as it pushes into highway and suburban autonomous operations.
The company runs hundreds of electric trucks for shippers in the U.S., Europe and the Middle East, including autonomous trucks already working in contracted customer deployments. It expects that footprint to reach 1,500 to 2,000 vehicles by 2028, based on customer demand captured on its platform so far. About 80% of that demand is suitable for automation in the medium term, the company said.
“We have the customers, the operational experience and the technology,” said Henrik Green, chief technology officer at Einride. “Building the next generation of the Einride Driver on the Nvidia Hyperion platform will enable us to scale autonomous deployment across a freight network that’s already serving customers today.”
Einride designs, builds and operates the driving system itself. It also handles safety validation, regulatory approval and customer deployments. Nvidia supplies the compute platform and AI development tools underneath.
The two companies will work directly to extend Hyperion’s compute, sensor, software and safety architecture to the demands of heavy-duty freight. Hyperion comes integrated with Nvidia’s Halos safety system.
For model training, Einride plans to deploy Nvidia’s Blackwell architecture at scale through an Nvidia Exemplar Cloud partner, a provider whose infrastructure Nvidia has validated for large-scale AI training performance. The release did not name the provider.
Nvidia Cosmos is already part of Einride’s AI development workflow. The tool lets the company search and curate camera data to find complex edge cases, then augment real-world data with photorealistic synthetic scenarios that widen the range of material used for training and validation.
“Autonomous trucking represents one of the clearest opportunities to improve the safety and efficiency of global freight,” said Rishi Dhall, vice president of automotive at Nvidia.
Neither company said in the announcement when the first Hyperion-based Einride trucks will enter service.
Why it matters: The deal puts Nvidia’s platform in a working network: Einride already hauls for shippers in the U.S., Europe and the Middle East. It says about 80% of its demand suits automation in the medium term and expects 1,500 to 2,000 vehicles by 2028. Highways and suburbs are the next test.
