CMA CGM increases presence at Reunion Island

The French ocean carrier has doubled the size of its offices on Reunion Island, and plans to make the overseas French department its hub in the Indian Ocean.    CMA CGM said it has inaugurated new offices in Reunion Island, doubling its former size to support increased activity resulting from the French carrier’s decision to make the island a hub in the Indian Ocean.
   The carrier said four of its services now call at Reunion, a French overseas department located east of Madagascar.
     • The weekly New North Europe Med Oceania or NEMO service between Europe, the Reunion Island and Australia .
     • The MIDAS service between West and South Africa and the Middle East and India, which calls Reunion twice a week, once in each direction.
     • The MASCAREIGNES service between Reunion, Mauritius, Madagascar, the Middle East and Indian subcontinent. Through connections with other CMA CGM services, other locations within the Indian Ocean are served.
     • The MOZEX service which offers a direct connection between the CMA CGM’s Port Kelang hub in Malaysia with ports in East Africa and Reunion.
   “Thanks to these new service offers, the Reunion Island will be served every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. CMA CGM offers unprecedented export solutions to Reunion Island producers and new sourcing opportunities for local importers.
   CMA CGM has been present on the Reunion Island since 2003. The company’s new office area has been doubled to support the increased activity generated by the new hub.
   According to ocean carrier schedule and capacity database BlueWater Reporting, four other direct region-to-region ocean shipping services call at Reunion Island: Maersk Line’s IOI loop, on which subsidiary Safmarine takes slots; PIL’s Mozambique Express, on whcih MOL purchases space; MSC’s Australia Express; and Hoegh Autoliners’s Europe/Africa/Australia one-way service.
