CMA CGM ordering more 16,000-TEU ships

French liner carrier CMA CGM said it has “signed for the acquisition” of three more 16,000-TEU ships.
A spokeswoman said the ships will be delivered in the second half of 2015 and that the company is “envisaging to add three others hopefully for end 2015.”
The first three 16,000-TEU ships – Marco Polo, Alexander von Humboldt and Jules Verne – were built for CMA CGM in South Korea by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and delivered this year and in late 2012, but the Journal of Commerce reported Thursday that Rodolphe Saade, the company’s executive officer, said the new ships will be built in Shanghai. – Chris Dupin
