Revenue was up 5.7 percent to 13.8 billion euros. While mail revenue fell 1.9 percent to 3.3 billion euros, all three DHL divisions did better: express revenue was up 9 percent to 3.2 billion euros, global freight forwarding and freight revenue was up 5.6 percent to 4 billion euros, and supply chain revenue was up 10.4 percent to 3.7 billion euros.
The company said the DHL businesses “continue to benefit from their strong market position in the world’s growth markets – particularly in Asia. As a result, the profit of the logistics division as a whole continued to increase.”
Among the trends highlighted by the company:
- Mail parcels are benefiting from online retail business, generating strong gains in both volume and revenues.
- The express business is seeing strong growth in volumes and revenues from international time-definite shipments.
- While air freight revenues remained stable, it benefited from improved purchasing conditions in air freight. Ocean freight generated double-digit growth in revenues as a result of rising volume and higher freight rates.
- The supply chain saw organic growth in the automotive and life sciences and health care sectors. – Chris Dupin
