El hijo del fundador de FedEx tomará las riendas de su división principal

Richard Smith sustituirá a Donald Colleran como presidente y CEO de FedEx Express

FedEx Corp. dijo a última hora del jueves que Richard W. Smith, el hijo del fundador, presidente y consejero delegado de FedEx, Frederick W. Smith, se convertirá en presidente y consejero delegado de FedEx Express, la unidad aérea e internacional de la compañía y lo que sigue siendo su negocio principal.

Smith (en la foto) sucederá a Donald F. Colleran, que se jubilará el 31 de diciembre tras 33 años en la empresa con sede en Memphis, Tennessee (NYSE: FDX). Smith se convertirá en presidente y consejero delegado electo de la unidad el 1 de abril y asumirá todas sus funciones el 1 de septiembre. Colleran permanecerá en la unidad como consejero ejecutivo hasta finales de diciembre.

El más joven de los Smith ocupa actualmente el cargo de presidente regional de la unidad para las Américas y vicepresidente ejecutivo de soporte global. Se incorporó a FedEx en 2005 y ha ocupado numerosos puestos de alto nivel en la empresa.

Colleran se incorporó a FedEx en 1989, después de que ésta adquiriera la compañía de carga aérea Flying Tigers el año anterior. Colleran trabajó en la gestión de ventas y operaciones internacionales desde 1992 hasta 2017, momento en el que fue nombrado para su actual cargo.

FedEx Express, el negocio que construyó la legendaria marca de la empresa, genera hoy más de la mitad de los ingresos anuales de la matriz.

Mark Solomon

Formerly the Executive Editor at DC Velocity, Mark Solomon joined FreightWaves as Managing Editor of Freight Markets. Solomon began his journalistic career in 1982 at Traffic World magazine, ran his own public relations firm (Media Based Solutions) from 1994 to 2008, and has been at DC Velocity since then. Over the course of his career, Solomon has covered nearly the whole gamut of the transportation and logistics industry, including trucking, railroads, maritime, 3PLs, and regulatory issues.
