Evergreen reports first quarter profit

Ocean carrier has agreed to order 10 containerships with 2,800 TEUs of capacity, with more orders possibly on the way.

Evergreen Marine Corp. reported a profit of 1.86 billion New Taiwan Dollars (NTD) (U.S. $60 million) in the first quarter of 2015 compared with a loss of 1.93 billion NTD in the first quarter of 2014.
The Taiwanese ocean carrier’s revenues for the quarter were 35.3 billion NTD, up from 34.4 billion NTD a year earlier.
Evergreen said at a board meeting last week the company has agreed to order 10 containerships with 2,800 TEUs of capacity for expansion and replacement of existing vessels.
The website Splash reported the company may order as many as 20 ships of that size.
