DTI offers an executive master’s degree, educational resources and research for industry leaders to inspire transportation solutions. The direction of DTI is guided by input from the board of directors.
As chair of the DTI board for several years, Bailey helped to elevate the awareness of the institute and strengthen its connections to industry. She previously served as the SVP and general manager for Yusen Logistics (Americas) Inc. with responsibility for the company’s transportation business unit. Bailey currently is the chairman of the Intermodal Association of North America.
Brittin recently retired as the secretary general of The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA), the only global trade association representing all elements of the aviation supply chain. Prior to that, he was the director of the Transportation Security Administration’s air cargo policy group in Washington, D.C.
Luiz Gonçalves has been named director of technical services for the Institute of International Container Lessors (IICL). Gonçalves, who joins the IICL from the container and chassis leasing industry, succeeds Gary Danback, who is retiring effective May 31.
Danback, who joined the IICL in 2000, was instrumental in the rollout of its container and chassis manuals, courses and inspector certification exams, according to the group’s president, Steven Blust.
“Gary has been able to share his expertise and experience with countless individuals around the world with a lasting positive impact on the container and chassis leasing industry,” Blust said.
Organized in 1971, the IICL represents lessors of maritime containers and intermodal chassis. Its member companies — Beacon, CAI, Direct ChassisLink, FlexiVan, SeaCube, Textainer, TOUAX, TRAC Intermodal and Triton International Limited — own or manage a significant portion of the global leased container and U.S. chassis fleets.
Gonçalves’ career began in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has served as the executive vice president of global operations for Unicon and as vice president of technical operations for Florens Leasins. Gonçalves most recently provided technical training, support and supervision of container depot activities for Seaco Global.
He served on the IICL technology committee from 2001 to 2015 and was its chair in 2006-07. Gonçalves also served as a director of the Container Owners Association from 2005 to 2015.
The Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA), the national trade association representing the U.S. shipyard industry, announced new leadership during its annual spring meeting in Washington, D.C.
Terry O’Brien, vice president of Austal, will take over SCA as chairman. Ben Bordelon, president and CEO of Bollinger Shipyards, will serve as vice chairman.
SCA President Matthew Paxton said O’Brien and Bordelon have “decades of experience in the maritime and shipbuilding industries and a keen knowledge of the hard-hitting issues that we face.”
