Executive Moves: Norfolk Southern, Hamburg Süd

Allen Sutherland named VP of law; Messer promoted to sales manager.    Vanessa L. Allen Sutherland has joined Norfolk Southern Corp. as vice president of law. She will be based in Norfolk, Va.
   Prior to joining Norfolk Southern, she served as chief executive officer and chairperson of the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board in Washington, D.C. Previously, she served as chief counsel with the U.S. Department of Transportation, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration; counsel and senior counsel with Philip Morris USA; and corporate counsel, senior corporate counsel and vice president and deputy general counsel with Digex Inc.

   Hamburg Süd has promoted Christopher Messer to manager of South Atlantic sales based in Atlanta.
   Messer joined Hamburg Süd in February 2012 as an account executive in Miami. In his new position he will oversee a team of seven sales and sales support employees with responsibility for north Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee and Alabama.
