Executive Moves: XPO and Redwood

C-suite appointments are announced this week in Chicago and Greenwich.

XPO Logistics announced Wednesday that Matthew Fassler has been appointed chief strategy officer, effective Nov. 26. Fassler will have responsibility for the company’s strategy, capital structure and analysis of growth opportunities. He replaces Scott Malat, who will step down Dec. 8. XPO said Malat, who has served as CSO since 2011, is leaving the Greenwich, Conn.-based company to spend more time with his family. Fassler’s career spans more than 20 years of senior experience with Goldman Sachs. During his tenure, he covered many of the world’s most prominent brands, including Walmart, Target, Costco, Home Depot, Best Buy and AutoZone. For more than 10 years, he served as a managing director and business unit leader, with responsibility for the broader consumer sector. “We hold Matt in high regard as an expert on market dynamics in the bricks-and-mortar retail and e-commerce sector — the fastest-growing area of our business,” said Bradley Jacobs, chairman and chief executive officer of XPO Logistics. “His understanding of omnichannel retail is particularly valuable to XPO, given our leadership positions in e-fulfillment and last-mile logistics. Matt’s insights will help us execute on our strongest opportunities for expansion.” Jacobs thanked Malat for his contributions to the company. “Scott has been a tireless proponent of XPO for the first seven years of our growth. As CSO, he helped build our company to a position of global leadership, and his forthright attitude served XPO well with the investor community.” XPO also announced that Tavio Headley has been promoted to senior director of investor relations, effective immediately. Headley has managed communications between the company and the financial community since 2013 as director of investor relations. Chicago-based Redwood Logistics announced Thursday it has hired Scott Cousins as the company’s chief technology officer. Cousins most recently served as the chief information officer for Roadrunner Transportation, for which he led the company’s digital transformation, included overhauling core operational platforms for its brokerage and carrier operating entities. Prior to joining Roadrunner, Cousins spent 10 years as the chief information officer at KeHE Distributors. “Scott’s demonstrative success as not only a strategic innovator with proven business results, but also as a leader who fosters cultural growth and refinement, makes him truly unique within this industry,” said Mark Yeager, CEO of Redwood Logistics. “We could not be more excited to have Scott join Redwood during this time of expansion and opportunity. He will be integral in solidifying Redwood’s standing as a disruptor and a next-generation freight management platform.”
