FAA names Elwell acting administrator

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration’s Deputy Administrator Daniel Elwell will serve as acting administrator, following the end of Administrator Michael Huerta’s term.    U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao has appointed Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Deputy Administrator Daniel Elwell to serve as acting administrator of the agency, following the end of Administrator Michael Huerta’s term.
   Elwell, who flew aircraft for the U.S. Air Force and 16 years at American Airlines before joining the FAA, was appointed the agency’s deputy administrator in June 2017.
   He previously served as the agency’s assistant administrator for policy, planning and environment from 2006-2008. But returned to the private sector to hold leadership roles at the Airlines For America and Aerospace Industries Association before rejoining the FAA in 2013.
   With Elwell’s appointment to FAA acting administrator, Carl Burleson, the agency’s deputy assistant administrator for policy, international, and environment, has become acting deputy administrator.
   Tina Amereihm, FAA’s deputy assistant administrator for information and technology, will become the FAA’s chief of staff, replacing Chris Rocheleau, who recently was named executive director for International Aviation.
