Fire extinguished on Crowley barge

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire that broke out Thursday on a barge that was being towed to Puerto Rico as part of Crowley Maritime’s regular service to the island.
A Coast Guard spokesman said the fire had been extinguished and that the 730-foot container barge was currently docked in Freeport, Bahamas.
A commercial fire fighting tug boat arrived on scene at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Friday to begin extinguishing the fire, and Coast Guard Cutter Robert Yered stayed on on scene to assist with communications between the vessels involved.
The seven person crew on the 127-foot tug Patriarch was not injured.
