Freightos automating Lufthansa’s cargo bookings

Forwarders will have instant access to contracted rates and capacity availability and will be able to book their cargo on specific flights.    Lufthansa Cargo is working with Freightos WebCargo to develop an online application that will allow freight forwarders to instantly look up contracted rates, capacity availability and book cargo on specific flights.
This will be accomplished through Lufthansa Cargo’s application programming interface (API) services being digitally integrated with Freightos’ applications, the companies said.
The companies said manual air freight management and sales continue to cost airlines and forwarders “billions annually in changing fees, untapped capacity and manual labor,” which “contributes to the average air cargo transit time of six days, while the flight itself is just hours.”
The platform will be rolled out by Lufthansa Cargo over the next several months, starting in Europe. Freightos’ forwarder customer Röhlig Logistics has already started using the program. “The new functionality enables rapid quoting and booking of our shipments,” said Dirk Schneider, Röhlig’s global air freight director, in a statement.
Freightos has developed the world’s largest air cargo rate database that has started allowing real-time pricing, capacity and e-booking for several airlines, like Lufthansa Cargo, and their forwarder customers.
