Gantry cranes ordered for planned Turkey terminal

   APM Terminals Izmir in Turkey has recently ordered three ship-to-shore quay cranes capable of handling containerships larger than 10,000 TEU from ZPMC in China.
   In addition, the terminal operator has 10 rubber-tire gantry cranes on order with the Shanghai-based equipment maker. They will be delivered in the summer of 2015 as part of Phase I of the new APM Terminals’ Izmir facility.
   According to APM Terminals, the STS cranes will have an outreach of 22 containers, while the RTG cranes will be electric to minimize carbon dioxide emissions and ensure higher productivity.
   In February 2013, APM Terminals formalized an agreement with Turkish petrochemical company Petkim to operate a new 1.5 million-TEU container and general deep-water terminal at Petkim Port in Aliağa, Izmir. The project investment is estimated to cost $400 million.
   Phase I is scheduled for completion during the second half of 2015, with phase II to be finished one and a half years later, APM Terminals said.
