Geodis partners with drone manufacturer for warehouse inventory

The logistics company has partnered with Delta Drone to use tiny aircraft inside warehouses for inventory assistance.    Logistics company Geodis has partnered with drone manufacturer Delta Drone to use tiny aircraft inside warehouses for inventory assistance, according to a joint press release issued by the companies.
   Geodis has been testing the use of the drones in real-life conditions at warehouses in Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône near Paris and Plaisance-du-Touch near Toulouse.
   “The initial prototype demonstrated all the potential of the developed system. It comprises a quadcopter drone fit with high-resolution cameras and a ground-based robot equipped with a battery providing the necessary energy for the system,” the companies said in the press release. “Capable of identifying pallets in low-light conditions, the solution is operated using several dedicated electronics and computer systems.”

   The completed prototype is expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2017, followed by an industrial development phase, which will be launched before the start-up of operational use at warehouses.
