HMM aims to reach charter rate negotiation deal this week

The South Korean shipping conglomerate has already reached a deal with Zodiac Marine, according to shipping publications Lloyd’s List and Tradewinds.

Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) hopes to reach a deal to negotiate new charter rates this week.
South Korea’s Yonhap news agency said the company has been in talks with 22 shipowners and “is expected to sign an initial deal with the owners of chartered ships that can lower rates as early as Tuesday,” attributing the information to government officials and industry insiders.
Shipping publications Lloyd’s List and TradeWinds both reported HMM has reached a deal with Zodiac Marine. Lloyd’s List said Zodiac has 10 ships on charter to HMM.
A number of publicly traded companies including Danaos, Navios Maritime Partners and Capital Product Partners also have ships on charter to HMM.
