Korea, Russia ship registries cooperate on shipbuilding

   The Korean Register and Russian Register of Shipping have recently entered an agreement to cooperate on shipbuilding.
   The aim is the continued development and promotion of the international shipbuilding industry and the agreement includes:
  • Technical cooperation and development of common rules for icebreakers/ice-classed vessels. 
  • Technical cooperation for LNG and offshore vessels operating in the Arctic ocean. 
  • Regular joint technical seminars. 
  • Regular summits involving the chief executive officers of each society. 
  • Information sharing and exchange of technical personnel. 
   “We are keen to continue to develop Russia’s shipbuilding sector and also to widen our own skill and knowledge base,” said Pavel Shikov, chief operating officer of the Russian Register of Shipping, in a statement. “The signing of this new MOU will allow us to learn from our colleagues in Korea and for us to work together to the advantage of the international shipping industry.”
