Love’s Travel Stops announced Tuesday that it is joining a growing list of retailers that are requiring customers to wear face coverings in an attempt to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The new face-covering policy starts on July 29 and will be required at all Love’s Travel Stops, Love’s Country Store, Love’s Truck Care and Speedco locations to protect customers, employees and local communities from the highly contagious virus.
The Oklahoma City-based truck stop chain has more than 520 locations in 41 states and employs more than 26,000 people. The company also operates more than 390 truck service centers, including on-site and stand-alone Speedco and Love’s Truck Care locations.
“We are joining other retailers by implementing a face-covering policy for customers, and will continue to follow the guidance of health officials and adjust our practices to help keep our customers and team members safe,” said Shane Wharton, president of Love’s. “We want to thank our customers who continue to adapt to these protective measures implemented at Love’s.”
Truckers have been on the front lines, risking exposure to COVID-19, to deliver critical medical and food supplies since March.
As of Tuesday, more than 3.8 million cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the U.S., resulting in more than 140,000 deaths, according to NBC News.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a press release on July 14 urging all Americans to wear masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Customers who don’t have their own face mask or covering can purchase one at any of the Love’s locations nationwide.
Love’s is prioritizing the health and safety of customers and team members by performing vigorous and frequent cleaning and disinfecting, practicing social distancing, and requiring all team members to wear face coverings, the company said in its release.
