Maersk and the commerce bureau of Nansha signed a memorandum of cooperation last week in support of the shipping line’s plans to build an import and export consolidation facility and establish a South China international logistics distribution center in Nansha.
Port of Nansha President and CEO John Painter shared the news with attendees at CONECT’s Northeast Trade & Transportation Conference this week in Newport, R.I.
Maersk plans to support import and export logistics, international transit consolidation, cross-border e-commerce, regional distribution and relevant logistics services from the Nansha facility.
“The traffic conditions in Nansha are getting more and more convenient, and we hope Nansha can become one of the most important bases for Maersk in the future,” said Cai Chaolin, a member of the Guangzhou municipal committee and secretary of the Nansha district committee.
At a signing ceremony, Robert Van Trooijen, head of Maersk Asia Pacific, said that over the years Maersk has been actively cooperating with Guangzhou and Nansha on shipping services, terminal operations and logistics services and has achieved gratifying results. He said he hoped that in the future Maersk can attract more international customers
