Four masked men cut into a tractor-trailer early Tuesday before stealing Black Angus beef ribs in Philadelphia. The group approached a 2026 Freightliner around 1 a.m., according to city police. They cut hinges from the rear door, gaining access to the cargo inside. Approximately half a pallet disappeared during the theft.
The offenders loaded the meat into a dark-colored Ford F-150. An unidentified Jeep accompanied that pickup as both vehicles left the area. Their route took them southbound from the 3300 block of South Third Street. Police described each suspect as male and wearing a mask.
Investigation remains active
The Philadelphia break-in follows other cargo crimes involving increasingly brazen tactics. A local theft ring targeted parked trailers and injured a driver during one robbery. Another FreightWaves investigation documented thieves deliberately striking security escorts protecting high-value technology shipments. Those cases involved different methods, but each required criminals to overcome physical safeguards protecting freight.
Authorities have not announced any arrests or reported recovering the missing ribs. Officials also have not disclosed the stolen beef’s value or identified the motor carrier. The Philadelphia Police Department told FreightWaves, “The investigation remains active and ongoing.” No further information about the case has emerged. FreightWaves will update this story as new details become available.
Why it matters
Cargo thieves breached a commercial trailer and removed food freight before escaping. Recent cases show physical cargo theft can also expose drivers and security teams to direct confrontations.
